Update last night 11:45

I've just now talked to Kevin for the first time since RAAM
started. He was coming on shift and had a few moments to
chat. Not that Kevin needed it, but Gary thought it would
be good for him to hear from me. He knows Robic has dropped
out of RAAM.

Kevin said he felt incredibly good. No problems with knees
or saddle issues and he was very coherent through our
conversation. He's been sleeping about 3 hours a day, but
will cut that down even further (the crew will monitor his
condition) for his final push into Annapolis. He hopes to
stay on his bike for the next 22 hours.

His major goals now are:

- first American to the finish
- first rookie to the finish

I'm sure he would also like to stay ahead of Jim Rees for a
4th place finish, but that's secondary to his current race
objectives. I've told Kevin how much we've all been
monitoring his progress and it really means a lot to him.
He wants me to convey his thanks to each of you.

    From Robic's Web Site:

Jure was the fastest cyclist on this years RAAM. On the last time check TS51, he came few minutes before Dani Wyss. Because of the penalties, issued controversially, because of the rules not aplied always in the same manner and because of not issuing penalties to others, Jure and his crew decided not to finish the race as 2nd, but step out of it on TS51.

Today it was written the history of RAAM. Jure and Dani staged the toughest fight ever and on the end the fastest didn't won.

Expect more in next days when we will be relaxing before traveling back home.

  2. Hey Kevin,

Way to go! Sounds like you're having a great trip across. No doubt your crew is doing a fantastic job as well.
I'm Ed Fleming from Houston. I've crewed for riders on 5 separate RAAMs in the late 90's and am qualified to ride it solo, so I have a pretty good idea of what you're going through. Sure wish I could meet you out there on the side of the rode to cheer you on, but you're doing super anyway!
RAAM '09 is turning out to be one of the great ones. Lots of close racing all through the field in all categories.
Keep it going and keep your eye on the prize.

    Ed
